RIVER SWEEP 2008
Organized by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium in partnership with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Beach Sweep/River Sweep is the largest one-day litter cleanup of South Carolina's beaches and waterways. Each September, volunteers clear trash from South Carolina beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes and swamps to reduce the threat to fish, wildlife, and othe rnatural resources and keep these areas safe for outdoor recreation.
Anyone can participate in Beach Sweep/River Sweep including families, individuals, businesses, civic groups, church and youth groups. Volunteer today and help remove unsightly trash from Saluda Shoals Park and the Saluda River. Trash will be picked up along the shores of the river as well as by boat. Boats are provided. Special Event Volunteers: Holiday Lights, Earth Fair, unearth
Bluebird Box Monitors: Walk a mile or two every week and record nesting activity
Park Maintenance: Help the Park Rangers with a variety of park tasks
River Sweep: Annual trash removal from the Saluda River
Photographer: Document wildflowers, seasonal changes and visitor activity

Volunteer Nature Interpreter Program
Saluda Shoals Park is currently accepting applications for a new Volunteer Nature Interpreter program. Nature Interpreters will interact with and educate park guests at the wetland and river flood plain area. They will teach visitors about the park through natural and cultural interpretation. Volunteer training is required. To learn more, call Jeanette Wells at 213-2051.
