Saluda Shoals Park
Join us for a double feature theatre performance at Saluda Shoals Park. The performance is brought to you by the Saluda Shoals Foundation in partnership with Columbia Children's Theatre — the Midlands’ premiere professional, nonprofit, theatre company dedicated solely to programming designed for the youngest members of the community. Performances include:
Romeo & Juliet
What happens when your star-crossed lovers carry cell phones, use iPads and sing 1960’s love songs? This truly innovative version of Shakespeare’s classic was conceived and directed by USC professor and former Globe Theatre intern Cathy Brookshire. The production uses six actors for all the roles and is performed in a modern, accessible fashion to help audiences easily grasp the language.
The Commedia Pinocchio
The Spaghetti and Meatball Players of Columbia Children's Theatre are bringing their zany shenanigans to the park! Join this troupe of "Italian" actors as they present the tale of Pinocchio like you've never seen before. This original adaptation is performed in the traditional style of commedia dell'arte, a largely improvisational style of street theatre originating in 16th century Italy. With lots of physical comedy, audience interaction, jokes, and surprises, this hilarious "fractured fairy tale" will delight children and adults of all ages!
