Chair volleyball at Seven Oaks Park was a big hit last Thursday during the Senior Sport Games. We love seeing our seniors having a great time!

Last Friday, Build It! Camp took over Crooked Creek Park—giving students a hands-on introduction to the exciting world of construction and design! 🔨Campers worked on real building projects, including a holiday tree that will be displayed at the park. They even built and raced their own working mini-elevators! 🏠 They explored construction, architecture, and engineering by designing blueprints for their dream homes. 👷 With help from local pros at Resolute Elevators, Reeves Construction, and the St. Andrews Optimist Club, campers got a real-world look at careers in the field. It was a fun-filled day packed with creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving that gave students a true feel into the world of construction! Thanks to SC Career Kids for making Build It! Camp such a success!

🏀 Introducing the Bridge Development League — a partnership between the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission and Lexington-Richland School District 5 to promote sports development in the community through a new youth sports league. The Bridge Development League is designed for children in middle school ages 9-14 to develop skills and prepare athletes for higher level competition, game rules and the expectations and demands of each sport the league offers. Basketball will be the pilot sport of the program being offered this winter and will be focused on boys 11-14 and girls ages 9-14. Registration is now open through November 6, 2025. Children will be able to play for their zoned school team and mascot (Irmo, Chapin, or Dutch Fork) wearing district school colored and logoed jerseys. The League aims to provide a place for all to play for their school with pride, improve skills and sportsmanship, while having fun. League games and practices will take place at ICRC and School District Five facilities. The season costs $90 and scholarships are available to ensure everyone plays. ICRC Operations Superintendent Jason White said, “We’re so happy to partner with School District Five on the Bridge Development League. This initiative gives all children new opportunities to play sports for their school with quality coaching, while at the same time making the transition from elementary to middle school easier on students and parents.” Youth sports have been shown to contribute to higher graduation rates and benefit children by reducing anxiety and depression, improving mood and well-being, increasing self-esteem, enhancing social and life skills, and improving academic performance.
