Board Member Spotlight: Gene Delk Meet Gene Delk, who has proudly served as a member of the Saluda Shoals Foundation Board since 2021. Gene brings valuable leadership experience as the General Manager of Power Generation Operations at Dominion Energy, where he helps keep critical energy operations running smoothly. He is married to Kelly E. Delk and is a proud father to three daughters. Outside of work, Gene enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golfing, and he’s a devoted Clemson Tigers fan. Exciting things are happening at Saluda Shoals Park as the Environmental Education Center undergoes a renovation. The Environmental Center has long been a cornerstone for learning and community connection. As the Park’s vision continues to grow, the Center must evolve to better serve today’s visitors and future generations. To renew and expand this essential facility, the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC), in partnership with the Saluda Shoals Foundation, is launching a multi-phase renovation and expansion effort. Phase One has begun and will focus on critical upgrades, including an expanded outdoor deck designed to enhance educational programs, gatherings, and special events, as well as new ADA-accessible restrooms to improve comfort, accessibility, and inclusivity for all visitors. Celebrating Eagle Scout Kyle Zbytovsky! This week at our January Commission meeting, the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission proudly recognized Kyle Zbytovsky of Chapin for completing his Eagle Scout project at Crooked Creek Park. Kyle built a new bridge along the (in-progrress) extension of our disc golf course, providing safe access for disc golfers, walkers, and visitors enjoying the trails. His project—supported by his family and the Crooked Creek disc golf community—adds a valuable asset to one of our most popular park features. Eagle Scouts like Kyle embody leadership, service, and a commitment to bettering their community.
